MAGNUM transfers to KOI

Earlier this week it was announced that Martin ‘MAGNUM’ Penkov had transferred from Fnatic to KOI, linking up with AFK Pros clients PHYRN and Sacake. KOI have had a difficult split so far in VRL Spain: Rising and MAGNUM’s skill and experience comes as a very welcome boost.

MAGNUM’s Valorant career started in June 2020 with Avenue esports, a fully Czech roster, playing alongside another AFK Pros client MONSTEERR. This team was acquired by Enterprise Esports where MAGNUM spent 6 months honing his craft and becoming a mainstay in the lower levels of European competition. He competed in Champions Tour Europe Stage 2: Challengers 1 for FA team HOMELESS, where he was scouted by Fnatic. After just one trial, Jacob ‘Mini’ Harris, the team’s coach instantly knew he was a great fit and signed MAGNUM for Fnatic in April 2021.

MAGNUM’s Fnatic career got off to a flying start, helping the team win Champions Tour Europe Stage 2: Challengers 2, qualifying them for the playoffs where they earned the right to compete at Masters 2. MAGNUM helped his team all the way to Grand Final where unfortunately they were outgunned by North American organisation Sentinels. Fnatic described MAGNUM’s debut at the event as “phenomenal”!

With Fnatic, MAGNUM also made appearances at VCT Champions 2021 and VCT Masters 1 2022. He leaves the organisation after what he calls the “best year of [his] life”, in which he has amassed a wealth of experience and established himself as an incredible top-tier talent, with “one of the best lurker minds in the game, combined with unrivalled game sense.”

KOI is a Spanish esports organisation founded in 2021 by former LVP caster and one of Twitch’s biggest content creators, Ibai Llanos, and FC Barcelona superstar Gerard Piqué. The organisation has accumulated a very large and passionate social following, with over 550k twitter followers in such a short span of time. This passionate following and high viewership numbers makes KOI a very attractive option for Riot’s quasi-franchising Valorant league starting in early 2023.

Everyone at AFK Pros is delighted for Martin and we are looking forward to watching him back on the server!!
